Winter/Spring 2019 Activities

Spring-Winter St. Ann Enrichment Program

Abrakadoodle:  Abrakadoodle is 9-week program that offers an extracurricular art class for students where they learn to draw by using recognizable shapes and lines to develop their own artwork.  (Grades K – 6)

Chess: Chess is a fun game that helps children develop many important qualities that serve them well beyond the classroom. They learn to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective.  The chess club is meant to foster a student’s intellectual growth while having fun.  (Grades 3 – 8)

Choir: Students who join choir will have the privilege of providing music for school liturgies as well as singing at concerts and performances throughout the year. Most notably, our choir is featured in the school Christmas Pageant.  Students who are interested in joining should be prepared to give it a year-long commitment.  The goal of choir is to cultivate excellent singing techniques and musicianship. (Grades 3 – 8)

Junior Mechanical Engineering: In this 8-week program students will explore what Mechanical Engineers design, invent and build. They will have a blast exploring basic mechanics of roller coasters, cars and physics of a catapult when they are tasked to use their creativity for their own builds.  (Grades K – 2)

Apprentice Mechanical Engineering: Our apprentice engineers will design, analyze ideal angles to achieve the ideal rate of travel and utilize friction to control the rate of travel when they start off designing a Marble Run. Next we will discover Newton’s Frist Law of Motion while teams master the roller coaster challenge and much more fun will be in store while we launch deep into the world of Mechanical Engineers. (Grades 3 – 5)

Peer Mentoring: The Peer Mentoring Club is a program that consists of pairing our middle school mentors with students from K-5 to engage in a number of activities. The activities will include academic assistance, social/communication skills, and an icebreaker/getting to know you game. (Grades K – 8)

Science Seed:  The Science SeedTM offers a 10-week session and teaches geology, chemistry, biology, physics, nature, and nutrition in fun, interactive, and age-appropriate ways.  (Grades PK4 – 1)

Strings Program: The Strings Program offers a year-long program that consists of learning to play the violin, viola or cello. The violin family of instruments enjoys many of the greatest pieces of music composed in the canon of great classical musical literature.  Not only is classical music great for its own sake, but it also gives the student, both as a performer as well as a listener, an emotional space into the period of history in which any particular great work of music was composed.  The class will meet once a week and requires the purchase or rental of an instrument and the appropriate materials in addition to the program fee.  (Grades 3 – 8)

Advanced Band (Grades 5-8)

Robotics Club: The Robotics Club provides students the opportunity to learn about computer science topics, mechanics and programming in a friendly and flexible environment. Students are encouraged to try things out, make mistakes and learn from them. The sets used are Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 and EV3. (Grades 4 – 8)

Caritas (Grades 6-8)
